Enterostomal​

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge in managing patients with stoma.


The Department of Colorectal Surgery is a centre of specialty for all referrals within the hospital as well as from general practitioners, private/public hospitals in Singapore and overseas. It is the only specialised department in Singapore for colorectal surgery.


The Department provides comprehensive investigative and emergency services for the whole range of colorectal and peri-anal conditions and all other aspects of colorectal diseases. The following services are available: colorectal and anal diseases surgery, Colorectal Surgical Oncology, Colonoscopy, Polyposis Registry, Family Cancer Advisory Service, Stoma Clinic and Pelvic Floor Laboratory.


The nursing team, managed by a senior nursing officer, consists of experienced and highly skilled nursing personnels provide pre- and post-operative care to patients admitted for elective and emergency colorectal surgery.


The Stoma Nurse Clinician provides stoma care teaching, support and counselling to patients and relatives. She also plans and organises courses to nurses to update on the care and management of stomas.


At the clinical attachment, participants will learn:

  • Diagnostic procedures for anorectal conditions
  • Visit to Stoma Clinic
  • Managing of patient with stoma
  • Pre- and post-operative counseling
  • Discharge planning
  • Support groups


Target Audience

  • Registered Nurses with at least 3 years of post-registration experience

  • Currently woking in a Surgical/ Colorectal ward
