Obstetrics
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology provides generalised and specialised service for the expectant women. It serves as a tertiary referral centre for high risk pregnancies due to maternal and/or fetal conditions. It also collaborates with other specialised units within the hospital to provide the multidisciplinary management. The Department had the first successful ovum donation and surgical retrieval of sperm and cryopreserved embryo live births in Singapore. The Department consists of a labour ward, antenatal/postnatal ward and a nursery. It is located at Block 5 Level 2 and 3. The aim for every medical and nursing personnel concerned is to ensure the safety and health of the mother and baby. The wards are managed by nurse manager supported by a team of experienced nurses. They provide and deliver parentcraft teaching and patient education to patient in caring for their newborn.
Participants will learn about management of patients in the antenatal, intranatal and post-natal periods.
At the clinical attachment, participants will learn:
Conception, physiological changes in pregnancy and post-partum
Developent stages of fetus
Obstetric conditions and their management
Antenatal care and teaching
Intranatal care and types/modes of delivery
Safe delivery and prevention/management of complications
Post-natal care and teaching
Target Audience
Registered nurses with a minimum of 1 year post-registration experience
Currently working in an Obstetric ward
