Renal Medicine

This program will enable participants to gain knowledge and skills in managing of patients with renal problems. 

The Department of Renal Medicine serves as a national referral centre for renal specialty. It provides the most comprehensive nephrological service in Singapore. The various subspecialty areas are clinical nephrology, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal transplantation and hypertension.


Within the Department there are the Dialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Centres which provide dialysis to patients with end-stage renal failure. Health education is conducted to patients and relatives and they are also trained to perform their own haemodialysis or continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis / continuous peritoneal dialysis.


At the clinical attachment, participants will learn:

  • Treatment modalities for patients with renal diseases

  • Nursing care and managing complications of patients on acute and chronic haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis

  • Care of patient prior to renal transplant surgery

  • Management of Dialysis Centre



Target Audience

  • Registered nurses with clinical dialysis experience and in nursing patients with renal diseases

  • Currently working in a renal ward (with dialysis) or in a Dialysis Unit / Renal Transplant Unit
