The Awe Ral Presentation: Practical Advice For An Effective Research Talk

The companion workshop to "For Poster-ity's Sake: Tips for a Successful Research Poster", this workshop provides practical advice on how to design and deliver effective research talks (be it at a scientific conference, a journal club, or a job talk). In three hours of instruction, the workshop focuses on designing research presentations that resonate with the audiences, as well as provide tips on effectively delivering your research message.

Learning Objectives

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Enhancing visual elements in your presentation
  • Using both text and graphics to clearly communicate data
  • Arresting and maintaining audiences' attention by structuring your presentation as a story

At the end of the workshop, attendees should be better able to communicate scientific concepts with audiences, improve their presentations skills, and even have more fun sharing their research with others.

Target Audience

Administrators, clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals who are orally presenting their research (at a scientific conference or otherwise) for the first time. Experienced conference attendees who wish to improve on their oral presentation skills (and perhaps win best oral presenter awards) are also welcome.
