Gerontology Nursing Course


This programme aims to provide registered nurses with the essential knowledge and skills in nursing management of elderly patients with multiple co-morbidities and also empower nurses to participate actively in discharge planning of elderly patients.



Course Outline:

Upon completion of this programme, the participants should be able to: 
  • Understand the impact of age related physical and physiologic changes to pathology
  • Explain the management of elderly patients with dementia, delirium and depression 
  • Outline Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA)
  • Discuss the management of incontinence and constipation 
  • Discuss the role of nurses in fall prevention 
  • Understand the concepts of frality 
  • Discuss the assessment of pain in elderly with cognitive disorders 
  • Discuss the implications of polypharmacy 
  • Explain the importance of adequate nutrition and hydration in elderly
  • Discuss the available common community resources and grant for older adults with disablity
  • Explain the importance of home safety for older adult

Target Audience:

Registered Nurses (Nurses who have Advanced Diploma in Gerontology Nursing need not attend)
