Opthalmic Enrolled Nurse Programme
With a growing number of people suffering from chronic eye diseases, traditional nursing work has changed considerably to cope with the increased patient load. In the newly proposed task-shifting model, basic nursing care duties, including basic eye evaluation, pupil dilation and assisting of doctors in consultation rooms will be taken over by the trained Ophthalmic Assistants.
The Opthalmic Enrolled Nurses (OENs) will take on extended roles, including performing pre-operative assessment and counselling, blood and glucose monitoring, lid hygiene, blood taking etc. This provides them with greater opportunities to undertake more complex nursing functions in the field of, empowering them to remain competitive in the evolving healthcare landscape.
This Ophthalmic Enrolled Nurse Programme (OENP) aims to provide OEN trainees with a rigorous and structured training programme delivered via didactic lectures, online learning and clinical practicum. The lectures are conducted by experienced clinicians and senior nurses. Lectures are also supplemented by online videos, e-learning content and quizzes. Trainees will also undergo a specialist module where they will be attached to the subspecialty clinics in the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) to gain exposure to procedures and hands-on skills practice.
At the end of the programme, trainees will be assessed for their clinical competencies in an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). The OSCE is a hands-on and real-world approach that will allow trainees to learn correct clinical methods through repeated practice, until a good understanding is achieved. Upon successful completion of the programme, trainees will receive a certificate.
Target Audience:
Enrolled Nurses with at least 2 years of experience in Ophthalmic Nursing
More details about the course will be provided when they are available. Bookmark this page for more information!
