Intermediate Care Area Nursing Course

This course aims to guide nurses in their care of patients with complex conditions and patients who may be medically unstable. Participants will be equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to deliver Intermediate Care effectively and efficiently, so as to provide safe, holistic and quality care to patients.

Course Outline: 

  • Nursing management of patients with respiratory dysfunction
  • Use of Respiratory support devices and artificial airway
  • Care of intra-pleural drainage
  • Nursing management of patients with cardiovascular dysfunction
  • Cardiovascular assessment and monitoring
  • Nursing management of patients with neurological dysfunction
  • Nursing management of common medical emergencies
  • Nursing care of patients with access for renal therapies
  • Specific nursing care of post-operative patients
  • Nursing roles and responsibilities in resuscitation
  • Nutritional management of patients in ICA
  • Pain management of patients in ICA
  • Common drugs used in ICA
  • Infection control in ICA
  • Perform nursing skills: use of equipment, such as portable oxygen transporter, central venous line, arterial line, and how to carry out conscious level charting
